P2 2021-2022: Mrs Brown
Classroom assistant: Mrs Shaw
Hello and welcome to the P2 class page. Or perhaps that should really be “Hello and welcome to Superhero Headquarters”! as P2 begin the year by finding out just how “SUPER” they really are, in every way. Families, bodies and senses are explored in lots of fun and interactive ways, including learning some British Sign Language, and discovering some tastes that we like….and a few that we definitely don’t like!
As the year goes on, the intrepid P2 superheroes don their chefs whites as they find out about “Food...from the ground to the plate”. They explore a range of familiar and unfamiliar fruit and vegetables, and use recipes and the science of cooking to create fruit salad, soup, pizza, and a range of buns and treats to share together on our “Fabulous Fridays”.
Our “Birds” topic, allows us to observe the birds in our school grounds, as well as those that live farther afield. The children get the opportunity to visit Castle Espie or Belfast’s Window on Wildlife to see “nose to beak” the wildfowl they have been learning about in the classroom.
Superheroes, chefs, twitchers….and then gardeners! Through the “Giants and Growing Things” topic, the P2 class find out about giants of myth and legend, both local and farther afield. And, a bit like Jack of the fairytale, they plant beans…..and a range of other things to allow them to explore how plants grow and develop.
The year is completed with not one more career option...but many! Our “People Who Help Us” topic allows us to think about the jobs of people in school, and in the community. We enjoy having the opportunity to invite parents and grandparents to share a little of their working life with us, and also welcome visitors from a range of professions into the classroom.
From superheroes to paramedics and everything in between. P2 have a busy year of fun, exploration and learning together.
The topics covered in P2 include:
Giants and growing things
People who help us
